Bheema Updates!!

One, two, three, jump. One, two, three, turn around…. No, this is not a dance school, but the final day of shooting of Sri Surya Movies’ Bheema, at Prasad Studio. The place is abuzz with technicians and junior dancers. Dance master Brinda is busy teaching some steps to the artistes, while cameraman R.D. Rajasekar reels out instructions to his men.

Even as he watches the proceedings, director Lingusamy talks about the much-hyped Vikram-Trisha starrer. “We are shooting for a dream song featuring the lead pair. We have brought in some dancers from Mumbai. The number composed by Harris Jayaraj is melodious. I’m sure it will be a hit with the audience.”

Brushing aside rumours that he had made major changes to the script, Lingusamy says, “I do not start shooting without completing the script and having it bound. All my assistant directors have copies of the script. And we stick to it. The production of the film got delayed due to various reasons. It’s got nothing to do with the script. Anyway, we’re close to wrapping it up.” Giving details about the song sequences, the director says, “One song was shot in Switzerland. It took four days for completion and has come out well. For another number, we went to Tuticorin. We bought a big ship and changed its interiors for the shoot. The hero comes in five different guises in the film.”

Happy that the film is completed, Vikram says, “I liked the script and was happy to work with director Lingusamy. The film has shaped up well. It has the right dose of sentiment, glamour, music and action. When I saw the film during the dubbing, it was like watching an English film.”

Chipping in, Trisha says, she liked the songs and also the film. “The story revolves around a don. Director Lingusamy has done a good job and made it a wholesome entertainer

A Sequel of Sholay?

After Ram Gopal Verma Ki AAG has hit the screens it should be said that a few directors who had the ideas to remake The Blockbuster-Sholay would have dropped their ideas by now! But Dharmendra alias Veeru(the name of his character in the movie) thinks otherwise! He has shown interest in preparing a sequel for Sholay! The script is ready and so are few of the casts! It has been proposed that both Abhishek and Bobby Deol- the siblings of the famous Jai and Veeru would be roping in their real life characters in the movie! Abhishek is expected to play the role of Jai's son and Bobby will be the son of Veeru and Basanthi! It has also been speculated that both Dharmendra and Hema Malini would do their respective roles once again! Though a confirmation is still awaited! I think that this would be a good try as many are awaiting Sholay part-2!!
Will Sholay-II be a blockbuster like Sholay or a flopbuster like AAG! Only time can tell! Lets wait and see!

Arjun and KB join Hands!

Arjun

Arjun is all smiles these days and it is not without enough reasons. For his long pending date with success has just happened with the release of his latest Marudamalai. Reason enough for the producers to swarm his front door for his dates. However, Arjun seemed to be holding all the cards and hadn’t nodded his consent for another project. But not for too long though. For he just can’t turn down a veteran like Balachander. Here is how.

arlier, director Selva called on Arjun for his next venture, the remake of old hit Nootrukku Nooru, for which the actor did not seem to show any keenness. Not sooner than the incident, Arjun received a call from Balachander – producer of the movie – and the veteran expressed his desire to cast Arjun in the remake project produced by Kavithalaya. The reason: Balachander was bowled over by the actor’s performance in Bommalattam. Arjun has obviously gestured a nod of consent to Selva after this.

Directed by Balachander, the old Nootrukku Nooru starred Jaishankar, Nagesh and Lakshmi and was a thriller sans action, which might as well provide a makeover for Arjun.

Arjun’s offbeat Bommalattam, directed by Bharathiraja, is due to hit the screens in the near future.

Four Remakes Of A Single Movie??

100 million dollars is being invested by a Bollywood Production House to make four versions of SHOLAY. In the year 1975 SHOLAY created ripples throughout the Asian countries. This film ran for years in theatres. This film is about two reformed crooks who save a village from a cruel brutal bandit. The bandit Gabbar Singh acted by Amjad Khan became so popular in this movie for he is portrayed as a tobacco-chewing, maniacal villain with staccato laughter.

The film was repackaged at various times, but an official remake is now going to be made by the Pritish Nandy Communications which has signed a deal with the producers of the original. The plan is to film a remake, a prequel, a sequel and an animated version of SHOLAY.

Paarthiban in Aayirathil Oruvan??

Parthiban

At a time when several films featuring the biggies are in the pipeline, Selvaraghavan's Aayirathil Oruvan seems to be the most expected of the lot. Well, it has all the reason to be. For one thing, fans and critics are eager to see Karthi's performance in this flick after his spellbinding performance in Paruthiveeran.

Added to this is Selvaraghavan's reputation as a master storyteller who can spin tales poignantly to touch the hearts of the audience. Music, among other things, is what the director concentrates, for all his films have had songs that were chartbusters. And his earlier ventures with Yuvan Shankar Raja bear testimony to this fact.

Adding one more to the feathers in his cap, in Aayirathil Oruvan, will be a guest performance by Parthiban. It’s no surprise that an actor of his stature has agreed for a cameo as he has done it before in Anthapuram. But then, Parthiban is always experimenting and is open to new ideas and roles and we expect his role in Aayirathil Oruvan to be as different as it was in Anthapuram.

And that is not all! Even Dhanush, the younger brother of the director will appear in a guest role. With Aayirathil Oruvan having an array of actors like Reema Sen, Andrea and Karthi it is quite natural that the film is drawing a lot of attention.

UDAMBU EPPADI IRUKKU a film directed by Jeevitha with her husband Dr.Rajasekar in the lead. Inside Story on the Rajni-Kamal-Mani Meet!

Kamal & Rajini

These days, the top talk in Kollywood seems to be the meeting of the most powerful triumvirate of Tamil cinema, viz. Rajini, Kamal and Mani Ratnam. This meeting has already been rendered different shades by the media, but reliable sources have confirmed that a discussion on an upcoming project had indeed taken place.

The proposed Rajinikanth starrer is touted to be funded by Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan perhaps under Raj Kamal banner which may be co-produced by his guru and mentor K Balachander. Mani Ratnam is expected to direct this venture. The eminent director seems to have accepted the conditions, on request that he should be given the liberty of going in with his style of film making. Music is slated to be handled by none other than Mani's protégé, A.R.Rahman. Kamal Haasan may have a guest role in the film.

The story has not yet been finalized but is expected to take up shape soon. There are whispers that the film may be loosely based on the life history of Rajini and Kamal just like the biographical film Iruvar directed by Mani Ratnam himself.

Whatever it is, the news of these three legends coming together has in itself increased the hormone levels among Tamil Cinema fans. And if it does happen, it will be nothing short of a gargantuan carnival.

Vivek in Kuruvi!!

Vivek is going to do a comedy role along with Vijay in Dharani directed Kuruvi. The last film in which Dharani and Vivek came together was Dhool, where the comedy track was very funny.

Vivek and Vijay have great comic timing, and one of the highlights of Kuruvi is going to be the duos comedy scenes with Trisha. Now comedy is an indispensable part of a Vijay film, as proved by the success of Pokkiri, where he was paired with Vadivel.

It is all about Ghilli team grouping again for Dharani directing it with Trisha playing the female lead role and starring him opposite. The film’s shooting hit the floors yesterday and has a shooting schedule of 300 days where Trisha’s schedule itself goes for 10 months and the film would most probably hit the screens next year by 11th month.

Surya

Director Selvaraghavan’s Aayirathil Oruvan with Karthi, Reema Sen and Andrea is proceeding smoothly and the film will be ready to hit the screen soon. Billa for Diwali!

Billa

Remake of the yesteryear hit that starred Rajinikanth, Billa is one of the most anticipated movies this year. The movie will feature Ajith as the Don and Nayantara as his lady love, with Namitha and Prabhu also playing important roles. The movie is directed by Vishnuvardhan, who after a dull Kurumbu, came up with the much liked Arindhum Ariyamalum and the hit Pattiyal.

The old Billa was a remake of the Hindi Don which was played by Amitabh. A year ago Sharukh Khan remade the old Don in Hindi which went on to become a super hit. The Hindi remake directed by Farhan Akhtar had a twist which was totally different to the old movie and many expect that the new Tamil movie will also have some unexpected twists. However, director Vishnuvardhan said that he has given due respect to one of the most liked action films and hasn't made any changes. But he has tried to make the script as stylish as possible.

The action thriller was expected to hit the screens on Diwali, but due to Ajith's ill health the movie was stalled for quite sometime, therefore rumors were afloat that the movie will not make it on time. But the optimistic director says that the one month rest has recharged everyone and they are working extra hard to complete the movie on time. Now almost 70% of the movie has been shot and all the scenes featuring Namitha has been completed. But sources say that scenes with Nayantara are yet to be filmed. It is also said that Nayantara has played a very glamorous role. Yuvan Shankar Raja has come out with some excellent music. Vishnuvardhan and Yuvan's last two combinations Arindhum Ariyamalum and Pattiyal are musically well received and the duo is on their way to a hat trick.

Ajith is rumoured to have played his character very stylishly and the director agreed with the superstar's contention that only Ajith could do justice to the role. And the movie is surely going to come as a Diwali treat to all Ajith fans. All the best to the Billa team.

Bommarilu remake in Hindi?

Bommarillu

Bommarillu, one of the most critically acclaimed movies in the recent times in Telugu, went on to become a super hit. And as like all successful Telugu movies, this one will also be remade in Tamil very soon. Sharing the screen space, for the Tamil version, with Jeyam Ravi will be actress Genelia. She had starred in the original version too.

The movie is about a father-son bond, which touched many a heart. Jayasudha, the famous yesteryear actress, who acted as Siddharth's mother, has decided to remake the movie in Hindi too. She and her husband will be producing the movie and talks are on with Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan for the father and son role. The father-son duo is said to be impressed with the storyline but has not given an official go ahead yet. Looks like Jayasudha will retain her role in the Hindi version as well.

The hunt is on for the heroine but rumor mills have it that Genelia may be signed up this time too. Another buzz is that Ayesha Takia is also in the race. However, it is being expected that the official statement would be out in a few days.

Rajini

It is an old news bit that Sivaji is being made in Hindi. By and large many scenes of the movie can straight away be made to suit the audience from the respective geographical area. However there are a few sequences which were fit enough only for a Tamil audience needed to be altered. For instance the scene where Rajini mimics Sivaji, M.G.R and Kamal Haasan just before the Adiradi number.

In Telugu Rajini was made to dance like N T R, Nageswara Rao and Chiranjeevi which got tremendous appreciation.

Similarly in Hindi, this specific sequence had Rajini moving like Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Meanwhile it was also reported that Shankar is too skeptical about making Sivaji in Hindi as his earlier dubbed version of Anniyan did not meet with a positive response there.

Cheeyan Vikram in Kollywood circles is known for his involvement in any role that he performs and for the efforts that he undertakes to merge himself with the character on screen. His long awaited Bheema will hit the marquee soon and he is currently busy in doing the ground work for his upcoming Kandasamy where he is reported to be doing five different getups. According to unit source, each of the getups will be totally different from the other and one of them happens to be that of a tribal man. For this particular look, the director had made a trip to African jungles and studied the tribes living there very diligently and had incorporated his findings in Vikram’s looks. Cheeyan had also rendered his cooperation completely and the make-up department had tried on different looks with him and has shot a few rushes which itself have turned out fabulous. Moondru Mugam, another famous Rajini-starrer, will also find its way to this list very soon. This movie was originally produced by RM. Veerappan’s Sathya Movies and directed by A. Jagannathan. Kathiresan, producer of Polladhavan, has now procured the remake rights, sources say. Talks are on to finalise the star cast, more particularly the male lead, as it is a triple action role. Fans may recall that the Alex Pandian, role played by Rajini, was the talk of the town at those times. It would really be interesting to see who bags this role now.

Sivaji meets Guru

Sivaji

Kollywood is alight with rumors about the latest meeting of Superstar with Mani Ratnam, the ace director of Indian cinema. The meeting is said to have lasted for more than two hours. Rumor mongers have sprung upon this news and have started building up their own version of the meeting.

However, according to Kollywood sources, the visit was purely a courtesy call where Superstar met Mani Ratnam to offer his condolences on his brother's untimely demise. Besides this, Rajnikanth has also reportedly discussed about Sivaji being dubbed in Hindi and had sought the director's suggestion on this as he had recently given a blockbuster hit in Hindi in Guru. The duo was reported to have discussed the upcoming animation film "Sultan the Warrior" which was followed by Mani Ratnam narrating a couple of stories to the Superstar.

It is known that Rajini and Mani came together 16 years ago for the super hit "Thalapathy" which is still considered the best movie of Rajinikanth as an actor and the bond between them had grown ever since. Even though they have not worked together from then on, Rajinikanth has always kept him in high regards as he was the first one to appreciate Mani Ratnam when Roja and Bombay were released.

Although the reasons attributed for their meeting could only be an extension of imagination of the media, still the very thought of the Super Director and Superstar coming together, is certainly the biggest news of the year. If the two team up again it is bound to be a Diwali time for Kollywood. Let's wait for official statements.

Salman capitulated!!

Salman Khan

We don't know whether they are the best of buddies at present but they soon will. Two men atop the burning deck of a ship often turn out to be friends. But jokes apart, the situation is grim for Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Bollywood. Salman has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment for killing a Chinkara (deer) in 1998. The actor was not present in court to hear the verdict.

The court which gave the verdict does not have the power to hear the bail application, so Salman will have to go behind bars for at least a few days before his lawyers can move to a higher court for bail. Even then his problems won't be solved and Bollywood would be deep in crisis. This thunderbolt of a news of Salman's conviction comes right behind the little element of relief that the news of Sanjay's coming out on bail brought.

ARR given a clean chit!!

The controversy surrounding the Jana Gana Mana album by A.R.Rahman came to an end today, with the Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice Jyothimani dismissing the petition to ban the album. According to the petitioner, Mohanraj, General Secretary of Jebamani Janata Party, the music director’s intention to release the album was to cash in on the national anthem.
A R Rahman

Moreover, he alleged that the national anthem
should be sung within stipulated seconds but
Rahman has sung it for over seven minutes.

The judges, while dismissing the petition on
both counts, said that it is the right of the citizens
to sing the national anthem and it cannot be
deemed as an act of disrespect. Also they gave
the verdict that there is no such rule as to the
stipulated time.

Kuruvi- An Outline!!

Vijay

Vijay-Dharani combo, who gave a super hit movie Ghilli, are back together once again for Kuruvi, Usually Kuruvi or Pura is used as a code word for illegal immigrants. As the title of the movie indicates, its storyline revolves around a youth who lands in Singapore without proper documents and to add to his woes the police also find that he has smuggled goods in his possession. The hero’s search for the villains forms the rest of the story.

Kuruvi will also be a fast paced movie just like Ghilli has been, reliable sources say. This project is being produced by Udhayanidhi, grandson of Chief Minister Karunanidhi. With Vidya Sagar scoring the music let’s hope that he gives us another smashing hit like “Appadi Podu”.

ARR might be imprisoned!!!

A R Rahman

A.R. Rahman – the proud Indian he has always been, had released Vande Mataram on the occasion of the 50th year of independence and in the 60th year he came up with an album "Jana Gana Mana".

Even though the intentions were good, he seems to have forgotten that there is a law that the national anthem should be sung in a specific way and should be finished within the stipulated seconds.

And if done otherwise it is deemed as disrespect to the national anthem and could attract a sentence of a maximum of three years imprisonment. And now many people are ready to sue Rahman for this action.

Shahrukh Khan

The highest-paid-actor record that Rajinikanth has been holding till now has been snatched away by Shahrukh Khan. The music rights of this movie have been snatched away by the T-series for an astounding Rs. 8 crores.

With Om Shakthi Om, having been made at a budget of Rs. 25 crores, Shahrukh has pocketed a mind boggling Rs. 58 crores even before the release of the film. Sivaji Releases again this Diwali!!!

Sivaji, undoubtedly the biggest hit in Tamil cinema history, was well received not just in Tamil Nadu but the world over. Even North India witnessed huge turnouts, which is a surprising factor as Tamil movies hardly get noticed in those areas. Probably after seeing such an unprecedented welcome for a movie that had no subtitles made AVM Productions decide on dubbing the movie in Hindi. And talks are on with Rajinikanth and Shriya to lend their voices for this.
Sivaji

Work has commenced for the Hindi dubbing
and Dr. Shankar being a perfectionist that he
is has decided to make minute changes to give
it a Hindi flavor.
Remember that when his Indian was dubbed in
Hindi as Hindustani he shot the whole Manorama
sequence with Aruna Irani, to give it a Hindi touch
and also changed all the Tamil banners in the
backdrop to Hindi. Dr. Shankar is expected to do the
same once again. And the movie is expected to be
released on Diwali.
